Then

Surely life’s not a game
Where we’re all out for a win and commentators
Sit and judge from the sidelines
Looking to promote their favourite
Whilst sharp shooting the players who offend them,
Like a scene from the hunger games.

Subscribing to the mantra ‘hurt me I’ll hurt you’
What does that ultimately achieve except breed an ironic love of hatred
Heartfelt and sincere in its destruction and vengeance towards another
A generational curse to be fulfilled and spread like a creeper
Bolstering our future population’s social anxiety
Self fulfilling prophesy where the best form of defence is attack.

Unemployed by a multinational corporation of belonging
Primed to play the world like a version of Call of Duty
Global trolls dressed as Disney scoundrels,
Tweeting and whistling along to the latest choons
Key in their next annihilation ; an unprecedented anonymous attack
Retro cowardice – Full stop. Can’t answer back

The more we look, the more we will find
Although there will be many of us who don’t think the same
Those that understand what matters would listen as each one shares from the heart
Because they will have shared in love, respect and kindness
And we will say, I don’t love you any less for feeling different
And they will say the same, and although we are different

So we will be different.
Together.
