Box Office

I’ve got to be honest see
I’m looking for integrity
Not who says what is best for me
Not necessarily

Because what makes me who
I am is the place I live
Is every man, woman and child
Who dream to have
A smile, a life that’s full of meaning
A meaningful life
Is that a dream, or is it
Just something we haven’t quite seen
…Yet?
Is it really what we could get
Is the stage set
Or are the cast even ready,
Are the lines learnt
The camera held steady, framing
A scene that is considered
Carefully planned
Not hindered by the wrong
People in the wrong place
Disingenuous actors pulling a face
Who are in it
For the fame, not the frame
For how they look
And what they can get
Not the bigger picture
Let alone
The wider set, that is key
To the scene
What I mean to say
Is on the day
When we hear the words
Lights, camera, action
Will we all gain in some way
Because we considered what was best
Or will there be a reaction
To an infraction
From voting for what only brings me satisfaction
Will we sulk
When we hear the result because we
Didn’t bother to get in
On the action
The difference is us
And that’s because we
Have a choice and although many of us
Have lost our voice over the years
To whatever ills
That have not
Held us dear, we step up
Again and say whatever my role
I believe that what I see
In the frame
Is as important now as it ever
Will be
And even as we mark our cross
That day there can be
Only gain, not loss, because
We stepped up
And fully played our part
In the knowledge that
We did it with a heart for the whole
We did it with our whole heart.
