Demo-crazy

I tried to start the cleaning
But there’s so many distractions
Lies and cheers and videotape
Victories and retractions

I sat and poured my gaze
Upon the reams and reams of views
I tried to make a head and tail
Of comments, thoughts and news

I put my thoughts down plain and clear
I said what I was feeling
Then the missile hit me hard
Emotions started reeling

I looked down at where I sat
And what my thoughts were bringing
But it didn’t take much longer
Until more mud started slinging

I felt confused, my thoughts abused
And so I joined the fight
I took in hand, a scoop of mud
And threw with all my might

It felt quite good, of course it should
Because it was my right
MY view is all that matters
If I’m locked horns in a fight

I threw more, and hit a score
Smack between the eyes
Once you shroud a face with mud
They’re no longer humanised

But then I heard a voice that said
Just look at all this mess
It was nowhere near this bad
At the start of the process

I stopped and stared around me
At the place that we’d become
The dirt, the mockery, the filth
The sadness and confusion

I reached my hand toward the voice
A gesture aimed at peace
We pulled each other up to stand
Together in the breach

The others stopped, their shock was clear
And written on their faces
Where do we all go from here
It’s new and different places

We all took some cloths in hand
Together, started cleaning
Floors and walls and muddied doors
And even dirty ceilings

It wasn’t long before our throng
Improved the nasty scene
But if we’d never started
We’d have sure had less to clean

No one knows what is to come
Criticism’s no solution
But please let’s work together
It’s the best of resolution.
